Taking care of your jewellery

Taking care of your jewellery

Taking care of Gold Vermeil Jewellery

Gold-plated jewellery is a timeless and affordable way to enjoy the luxurious look of gold without the premium price tag. It looks and feels more premium than stainless steel coated jewellery and it protects your crystals from water damage and unnecessary wear and tear of the stone. Whether it's your favourite necklace, everyday earrings, or a statement ring, proper care can help maintain its shine and extend its lifespan.

Unlike solid gold, gold-plated jewellery features a layer of gold applied over a silver metal. With regular wear, this layer can gradually wear away, making gentle care essential. Our jewellery is now coated with 2.5-3 micron thick gold plate making it a gold vermeil industry standard.

Each piece of jewellery is made with intention & infused with energy, treat it with the same care to keep it shining bright...

  • Keep it dry & dreamy’ - avoid contact with water, moisture, chemicals and sweat. Natural body oils and sweat can be a big contribution to gold tarnishing, whilst we know this is unavoidable, if you know you have very oily skin, we suggest choosing our Sterling Silver jewellery so your piece will last you forever. You can also remove your jewellery when you feel your skin starting to sweat or produce oil to protect it. Remove before showering, swimming, washing dishes, or exercising. Water, chlorine, saltwater, and sweat can all accelerate fading and reduce the life of the plating.

  • Last to put on, first to take off’ - Let it be the final touch before you head out into the world.

  • 'Avoid these please' - Fragrances are a big no no, also fake tan, creams and lotions that will make sure jewellery tarnish faster. Household cleaning products, hand sanitiser, lotions, and even some soaps can damage the gold finish. If your jewellery may come into contact with chemicals, it's best to remove it first.

  • Rest it mindfully’ - Keep jewellery in a cool, dry place, store it in your jewellery box or pouch & keep away from sunlight. Keeping pieces apart helps prevent scratches, while storing them in a cool, dry place reduces exposure to moisture and humidity.

  • 'Rotations for the win' - If you have a favourite piece that you wear every day, consider rotating it with other jewellery. Giving your gold-plated pieces a break helps reduce friction and everyday wear, allowing the plating to last longer.

  • 'Handle with care' - Repeated rubbing against clothing, handbags, watches, or other jewellery can gradually wear down the gold plating. Treat your pieces gently, especially delicate chains, rings, and bracelets that experience frequent contact.

Will my gold jewellery last?

Yes! With proper care, gold-plated jewellery can remain beautiful for years. How long the plating lasts depends on factors such as the thickness of the plating, how often the piece is worn, and how well it's cared for. By following a few simple habits, you can preserve its colour and shine for as long as possible.

Taking care of your silver jewellery

Each piece of jewellery is made with intention & infused with energy, treat it with the same care to keep it shining bright...

  • Clean gently’ - Our jewellery is solid sterling silver so doesn’t require much upkeep, it may only need a little re-polish every few moons with our soft silver polishing cloth.

  • Precious little rocks’ - Our metal is strong, but our crystals should still be treated preciously, avoid contact with harsh chemicals, salts, or chlorine to protect your high energy stones. Store your jewellery in your pouches or boxes.

Can sterling silver tarnish?

Sterling silver naturally reacts with sulphur and moisture in the air, causing a darkened layer known as tarnish. This is completely normal and does not mean your jewellery is damaged. With regular cleaning and proper storage, tarnish can be easily managed, keeping your jewellery looking its best. Simply, clean your jewellery with a silver cloth and continue to wear it, over time your jewellery will shine back up again.
